Cryptorchidism:
Mothers, You should know
this if you want to see your grandchildren
Cryptorchidism
is the most common male genitalia defect. It is a symptom
that one or both testes didn’t move or descend from an abdominal
position. This means one testis or both testes are still hidden
inside abdomen of the baby. According to a medical journal, 3 –
5% of new born male babies have cryptorchidism.
Among premature babies the percentage of cryptorchidism
goes higher up to 30 %.
As for the babies born with cryptorchidism,
most of the babies’ testis usually descends to normal position in 6
months through the inguinal canal, but some don’t.
Cryptorchidism
is the first cause of male infertility. Testes need a low
temperature (normally 2-3 degrees lower to regular body temperature)
to produce sperms actively.
If you see the male sexual organ, you can see wrinkles on the
scrotum. This wrinkle’s role is to lower body temperature in scrotum
for testes. But if testes are still inside abdomen where body heat
is high, it cannot produce sperm.
Another problems for cryptorchidism
is that it is the cause of testicular tumor, abdomen pain, hernia or
testicular cancer in later years.
