So what causes a tight foreskin?
The general term is phimosis. Although true phimosis is a condition
whereby the male foreskin is unable to be pulled back,
or retract properly from the head of the penis,
there are various types and varying degrees of a tight foreskin.
The causes of a tight foreskin are various, but most commonly it is simply
because you are born with it that way. This is known as “Congenital Phimosis”
and is present in all newborn males. This is completely normal and it can
persist well into late teenage years when the condition usually resolves
itself.
A proportion of men, however retain the condition,
which can be made worse over time by tearing of the foreskin which
can leave a tight rim of scar tissue. For other men the condition occurs
later in life, with possible links to diabetes or
infections.
As sensitive as the fingertips or the lips of the mouth,
the foreskin contains a richer variety and greater concentration of
specialised nerve receptors than any other part of the penis. It
protects the head of the penis and keeps its surface soft, moist, and
sensitive, in much the same way as the eyelids protect the eyes.
